The Great Beyond

Today is Valentine's Day. If you're not sure - read my last post!

Before I was in love and my life was made whole by this amazing woman, I treated Valentine's Day for what it was in my life. The day my father died. He died on Valentine's Day in 1995 and ever since that, this day has been one of somber reflection.

And even as I think on that today, and celebrate my love for my girl, I still save part of me to grieve for him. There is nothing more finite in this world than losing your father. And I still miss mine more than I care to admit.

So when the surgeon told me that I was scheduled for surgery on Valentine's Day - I said HELL NO.

Which brings me to tomorrow.......................

I am having two titanium rods screwed into my spine tomorrow at 7:00am. But tomorrow is the day AFTER Valentine's Day. You can never be to careful with Karma!

Never been in the hospital before. Never been cut on. Except for 17 or 18 tattoos, my skin is flawless!! Now I'm going to have a big ole scar running through my favorite tattoo - the one with a big heart with a "P" in the middle of it with outstretched wings that I traced off of the Aerosmith "Get Your Wings" album.

So please pray for me tomorrow.

Don't know how long I'll be down - but I do know that I'll be well taken care of.

So I'll see ya when I see ya.

And until then: Be Well.

St. Valentine Rocks!

Happy Valentine's Day...........ya'll!!!

Today is an amazing day. The one day when we are freed from "regular" life and get to play dress-up. And I love it.

For every lonely person out there, I pray there are 1o1 that are like me - just as happy as a pig in the sunshine.

I love today because on today I get to shower the woman I love with stuff.

And today was a good one.

I snuck out early today and went to wait in line at the florist. Must be good to be a florist today. Roses - $75 bucks a dozen or $45 for a half dozen. As if a smart boy would ever buy a half dozen!

So anyway, in keeping with my desire for maximum exposure of embarassment when I can get away with it for my love, I took the flowers to her office. And a card. I put them on her desk and hugged her, kissed her (meaningfully!) and told her how special she is to me.

I tell her how I was simply a puzzle dropped on the floor until she came along and picked up the pieces and put them together to reveal a wonderful puzzle.

I tell her how my life is exactly how I always dreamed it could be but never dared hope it would be.

I tell her how she is my everything.

And then I leave.

But before I leave, I stop by her right-hand (wo)man's office and whisper for her to go get all of her employees together and go to the bosses office and make a spectacle of revealing to her that a big ole diamond ring was dropped into the bottom of the vase. Have her take all the flowers out and stick her hand down there and fish it out.

Then I leave!

And apparently they did just that. I get a phone call 10 minutes later and it sounds as if it is coming from a Mardi Gras parade. The girls were having a wonderful time!

She got the ring and was thoroughly embarassed by the attention.

Yea, I love my life.

Especially when I get home and get my "reward".

Oh yea, I love my life!!!

I hope you love yours too. If not, do something about it. There is no day like today!!!

Got Radio?

I bought a new vehicle two weeks ago. My other "new" car had received 50,000 miles in one year - and normally I drive them to 300,000 or so, but I got a wild hair and went and traded and got me a new Ford Explorer.

It's been years since I've had and SUV and boy are they better than they used to be. I've enjoyed sitting up higher and seeing more. I love the feeling of invincibility you have in a heavy truck. Downside is that I am NOT enjoying the old miles per gallon thing.

Oh well, you can't have everything.

Except with girls, and then you can if you keep the dog off the new furniture - but that's another story for another time!

Anyway, I got another wild hair and decided to get me a new Sony Sirius radio put in the new truck. And Oh My God, is that amazing. Never run out of area (except under cover of buildings or tunnels or big oak trees) and the sound quality is amazing. 160 channels, most playing something I want to listen to.

So if you hear that I'm dead in a wreck, just know that I was fiddling with the satellite radio and not paying attention to where I was pointed.

Peace.

HEADLINES!

Found some great "headlines" on a web site. Real "headlines".

And as a former high school newspaper guy that had to write these, I feel some empathy for the writers of this stuff. Because after all the work was done, the layout sometimes taking hours, then you had the task of writing "headlines" that would fit into the places that were left. Normally, you would write the headline before hand - but it NEVER fit. So you had to do it all over, after all your creativity was sucked from your cold body.

But the chicks were hot on the newspaper staff.

Here's the headlines:

1. Something Went Wrong in Jet Crash, Experts Say
2. Include Your Children When Baking Cookies
3. Police Begin Campaign to Run Down Jaywalkers
4. Drunks Get Nine Months in Violin Case
5. Iraqi Head Seeks Arms
6. Is There a Ring of Debris around Uranus?
7. Prostitutes Appeal to Pope
8. Panda Mating Fails; Veterinarian Takes Over

10. Teacher Strike Idle Kids
11. Clinton Wins Budget; More Lies Ahead
12. Plane Too Close to Ground, Crash Probe Told
13. Miners Refuse to Work After Death
14. Juvenile Court to Try Shooting Defendant
15. Stolen Painting Found by Tree
16. Local High School Dropouts Cut in Half

Purple Rain!

Rain, Rain, Rain.

Super Bowl Soup.

Bad game.

Right team won.

Great commercials.

But Oh My God! Did you see the halftime show?

I was at a big party in Louisiana and it was noisy and busy and when Prince came on, the entire room was quiet and everyone stood transfixed.

I have spent a great deal of time trying to figure out the Tao of Prince - but must admit that I have no idea what he is.

He is funky, small, sexy, great musician, etherial figure. He is in fact, a modern day enigma.

And he always has been.

He marches to his own drummer and that drummer beats a tom-tom different than anything I have ever heard.

I have seen him live. I have personally witnessed girls screaming and then fainting. I have seen him work some kind of mojo that I've never seen before. I can only imagine it would have been something like Elvis would have done in the early sixties.

But he rocked that stage. Sang a little Hendrix/Foo Fighters mix and sprinkled some hits in - all while doing it in the driving rain looking rather androginously fabulous.

So here's to Prince and here's to whoever had the great idea to hire him to perform at the Super Bowl.

Peace. I'm outta here!

Bad, bad, post-er man

I have been a very bad blogger. Too much to do and not enough creative stuff left to bloviate about the absurd.

And I'm feeling guilty about it.

My mom's been in the hopital for weeks which is very tiring for an only son.

Work is hectic.

I've been sick and am getting some titanium rods screwed into my back in less than 2 weeks.

But I'll be back, I promise.

In the meantime, everyone know that life is very good - no matter what the problems may be and that love will cure ALL ills.
